I was writing to you yesterday in reply to your letter of the last relation to certain papers filed to be forwarded to this Office by Mr Miller — I find that they were received on the 3d August 1799 & he was on that same day informed thereof.

I have received your letter dated the 7th Instt and have also daily received thro' called the 1 left side by the hands of Mr Baird with the Bundles of Accounts & vouchers accompanying it. Satisfied solicitous to the latter was I had in some measure arranged the Accounts so as to know the nature of your expenditures, & the documents upon which you made your payments. But tho so much time has elapsed since receiving them, I have not been able to make any kind of arrangement of them, so as to prove satisfactory the vouchers are such a confused mass of incomprehensible pieces, so many accounts wanting to make them complete for [undecipherable] such extravagant charges upon such slight evidence of the debt that I really despair of ever making any thing of them.
