The Secretary of War Accountants Office Sir October 19, 1799 In answer to your letter of this date stating that it is mentioned in a letter under the 30 August War received to day that he sent on about a Year ago a length of Pay Rolls for the Men employed in Jefferson County for the Years 1798 & "1799". I have to inform you that no such papers appear on file in this Office & that I have no recollection of their having been presented. I am &c W^m S. M^r George Fleming October 19^th 1799 Will Point Sir I have received your letter of the 1 Inst^t enclosing your account of salary from 1 July to 30 September 1799 inclusively, which you will please to enclose in a statement of your a/c with this Department, from the time that your acct. was settled in the Nov^r 1797, to the present period, as the settlement made with you is in Philad^a to which I cannot have reference though it is indispensable, however that may be removed on your forwarding one to this Office you will be particular in not blending your Transactions with the Treasury Dep^t with those of the War Department. as I find your account has been close three since which you received an advance of 1000 Dollars, which is transferred to your debit on the Books of this Office — I am &c W^m S.
