I have received your letter of the 1 Instt enclosing your account of salary from 1 July to 30 September 1799 inclusively, which you will please to enclose in a statement of your a/c with this Department, from the time that your acct. was settled in the Novr 1797, to the present period, as the settlement made with you is in Philada to which I cannot have reference though it is indispensable, however that may be removed on your forwarding one to this Office you will be particular in not blending your Transactions with the Treasury Dept with those of the War Department. as I find your account has been close three since which you received an advance of 1000 Dollars, which is transferred to your debit on the Books of this Office —
