Pittsburg, October 18^th 1799 Sir As Mr Park will give full information of the means that have been adopted to secure the Rent of the Glass works & advances made to Eichbaum Wentz &Co it is not necessary to say any thing further on that point, but I have to observe that I am apprehensive the Glass Manufactory will not go on well the ensuing year, under the direction of Eichbaum, or any of the people now engaged as ^his partners — I find that an implacable Enmity exists between Eichbaum & Wentz — and that the latter has attached Phillis and Smith to him in such a manner, that the former is treated with very little respect — Eichbaum told me the other day that Wentz & Phillis were determined to go to Albany soon after the expiration of their year — and they themselves assure me that they never had any intention of leaving our Works, so long as they can be employed; but they say that Eichbaum is not capable of superintending that business, and they are not disposed to rent the works another year — Phillis assures me that Lewis Ropart who now has the direction of Johnston's Glass works in Maryland would gladly accept of an invitation to Pittsburg, he was here some time in the Summer assisting Phillis & Wentz. I presume you will recollect seeing him; he has two Brothers also Glass blowers who are now at Albany, but who will also come to Pittsburg, if wanted, and Phillis assures me that Repart is so much esteemed by the Glass Blowers generally that he can bring with him any workmen he pleases. Will it not be adviseable for you or Mr Park to come home via Johnston's works, near Frederic town, in order to see this man or to use other means of obtaining him or some other suitable person. Since the arrival of the Clay, Eichbaum &Co have been employed in making Pots, and in order that we may have a sufficient number on hand to carry on the business during the winter I have agreed trouble of handing to Mr Andrews, & at the same time take up any Memoranda now in his possession of his having deposited the Sums with me — Mr Andrews informs me that his Residence whilst in Philade.^a will be at Doctor Andrews in the University — I am &c your &c [undecipherable] Jno Hedgston Esqr
