Sir
I have just received a note from the Comptroller of the Treasury informing me, that the Accounts of Samuel Lewis Senior, on the books of the Treasury are settled, and a ballance found due from him on one of them, is transfered to the books of the Accountant. That in relation to the monies advanced to Mr. Lewis from the War [undecipherable: office] a considerable misapplication is evident, the particulars of which, can be ascertained by the Secretary in his own Department.
You will be pleased to cause copies of the accounts of Mr. Lewis, for advances made to him, to be furnished to me, in order that I may have a full view of the subject.
I am Sir
Your Obedient Servant
