Major Lewis — Agent of War Knoxville 16 October 1799 Sir, I herewith inclose you a Copy of my entries in my Books for the month of August, and intended Sending on Some further abstracts of my accounts for the Year 1798 with such explanations as might Serve to illuminate to an examination of my accounts but Major Lewis came on and as Agent to the Cherokees, requests their goods [strikethrough: that they] will be delivered at Tellico therefore to promote demands that and Indians being at an expence to government, must attend to them in delivering their goods, you will therefore receive this as an apology for not receiving any letters a post or two; when I will return and resume the finishing my accounts.
