Jed^h Huntington Collector New London Accountants Office October 10. 1799 Sir The Treasurer of the United States will remit you the sum of one hundred & seventeen Dollars & Two Cents, for rations & Quarter master Stores furnished the Recruits at New London by Maj^r John & Amos Woodward, between 1 Mar & the 30 Sep^r 1799 which sum you will please to pay them upon their granting you the necessary receipts I am &^c Caleb Swan Esq^r October 10. 1799 Sir I inclose you a letter received from John M^c Snell asking Pay master to the troops on the Mississpi with his account Current & Vouchers for monies expended, which were received from you — It being proper that these accounts &^c in the 1^st Instance, must an examination in your Office, they are referred to you for that purpose, & M^r Snell has been accordingly notified thereof. That no time may be lost in calling the accountable persons to account I have to request that you will give these accounts as early an examination as possible, & return them with his letter to this Office with your remarks thereon — I also enclose you the muster & pay rolls of Capt Ruffell Pufalls Recruits from 1 July to 30 Sep^t 1799, & a letter with sundry muster Rolls accompanying it, from major Worley of the 2^d Reg^t at Strawberry. I have referred the latter Officer to you for the information he requests in his letter, & have informed Capt Puffall that his Rolls were referred to your Office I am &^c
