War Department Trenton, 12^th October 1794. Sir, The Secretary of War recollects, that a person of the Name of Jasper Parish, was heretofore employed in the service of the United States, as an Indian Interpreter. It is however impossible for him to say whether the said J. Parish, was employed in that character, from the 1^st of March, to the 31^st of August in the present year, the period for which he charges his Salary, at the rate of 300 dollars per annum, in an account exhibited against the United States, dated Canandaigua, the 25^th of September last. To ascertain the fact, of service for the period charged for, it will be necessary to call for a Certificate from Israel Chapin Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the Six nations of Indians.
