[Docket: Major Isaac Craig / 11th October 1799 / Recd 18—]
Pittsburgh 11th October 1799.
Sir,
I have received your letter of the 4th instant accompanied by one addressed to Major Elias Langham which I shall send forward by the first safe conveyance.
I thank you for your information of the Stores coming forward and shall be prepared to push them on if possible to their places of destination, but am very apprehensive, that their arrival at Presque Isle, will be too late to cross the Lakes before the Winter—
(I have herewith enclosed a Certificate, which I trust added to the Letter of Attorney formerly sent will enable you to obtain a Land Warrant due Joseph Johnston for his Services as Private Soldier in the first and third Regiment of the Pennsy'le Lines in the Revolutionary Army. I am sorry I have to give you so much trouble in a matter of so little importance—
Our Election is over, and in Pittsburg and the districts of this County from which Returns have arrived generally greatly in favor of James Ross. In Somerset county he has a Majority of 572 in Fayette 145, in Westmoreland and Washington small Majorities are against him — But notwithstanding which I have no doubt of his having a Majority in the Western Country,
I am Sir,
Your obedient Servant
Isaac Craig
Samuel Hodgdon Esq.
