Sir, I observe in one of your Schedules an advance of pay for Lieut Peter Marks. I have to observe to you, that Lt Marks received [strikethrough: on the] 3^d day of Jany 1795 from Captain Edward Butler, 1773 dollars for the recruiting Service; his receipt has long since been forwarded by me to your Office; — on the 23d of November 1795 Ensign W. P. Smith refunded to me 230 dollars of the above mentioned money, for and on account of the said Lt Marks, with which he stands Credited in my books. — he is still accountable for the balance of 1543. dollars. — and I presume [strikethrough: I cannot produce receipts for more than the] bounty of about twenty recruits. — I conceive it to be an object, to have this account settled. Captain Sedgwick has desired me to enclose his account to you (which I herewith send) and to remind you that he is in want of the money and wishes to have it settled.
