Sir,
I take the Liberty of Laying before your Honour the following Statement of my Sufferings and Losses in the Cause of American Liberty. I William Maxwell of North Providence in the State of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations went into the British Province of Nova Scotia in 1762 and resided there until the Dec. 1, 1776 at which time I was compelled to abandon that Province on account of my attachment to the American Cause, & taking up Arms against the British Government, Leaving my Family & Property behind me. An Interest Consisting of Lands, Stock & other Property to the amount of upwards of two Thousand Dollars, & took Refuge in the United States of America After my arrival into Massachusetts I Served upwards of five Years in the Service of my Country & have resided in the United States until the present day — I wish the Gentlemen whom it may concern may compare the Depositions in my favour with the above Statement and give it what weight they merit.
