[276] Pittsburg 27 September 1799 Sir, I have received your favour of the 20^th instant covering M^r Sam^l Lewis's letter, respecting Joseph Johnston's power of Attorney to which I shall immediately pay the necessary Attention. I shall be prepared for transportation of the cloathing you mention from this post, but I am apprehensive that destined for Fort Wayne cannot reach Presqu' isle in season to cross the Lake before the winter — Our approaching Election engrosses much of the public attention at this place & throughout the Western counties — & I have no doubt of M^r Ross having a respectable Majority but I am sorry that even in our own town several whom we expected were his friends are suspected of being his enemies — I am much obliged by your attention to the Bl^l of sugar as our old stock has been expended some time.
