Sep^t 26, 1799 Sir I have received your letter on the subject of a Warrant said to be granted you by Gen^l Knox late Secretary of War & which you say he advised you to leave in his Office, to be attended to, but never was any answered to you or your order — I cannot find any such document on file in this Office it is probable however it it has been filed in the Office of General Knox as your Suggest, that the War Office is the proper place whose application should be made — I accordingly return you the letter of General Knox which your letter, to me enclose, came Fo 8^th Robert Gilmore Esq^r September 26 — 1799 Baltimore Sir By a letter received from the Secretary of War I am directed to furnish the marine Committee at Baltimore consisting of Robert Gilmore, Jeremiah Yellot, David Steuart Robert Oliver, marks Pringle, & William Patterson who are charged with the direction of the Works for the defence of that harbour, with Instructions respecting the forms &^c which may be necessary to the Settlement of their accounts for expenditures on the Said Works.
