Mr John Campbell Contractor has on this day for Vouchers full &from, furnished the Provisions near your Command at Hackinsack the sum of Dolrs 143.42 notwithstanding the Vouchers were very incomplete for want of assing certificates from you. you must certainly know that every information relative to the accounts presented was nessary to be had in order for a settlement & that Officers should give such information as might be usefull upon Contractors accompts —
In the settlement now made Mr Campbell has been allowed Dolrs 43. & busy to make it appear to you to Lieut Johnson for so much lost he have purchased by you & him for twenties, full rations provided for guards & men whilst a Recruiting this Sir should certainly have been accompanied by vouchers or at least by a Duplicate statement of the charges which made the aggregate amount & Which there have been able to judge whether you or Lieut Johnson have made any charge of an uncomfortable nature you must be sensible that no allowance is made to officers for their expences in travelling other than the premium of a Dollar Pr diem
