274 Pittsburg 20^th Septem^r 1799 D^r Sir, I have just received your letter of the 23 Ult^o and 12^th &13^th inst. that of the 12^th accompanied by your account current, which I shall immediately examine & compare with my entries. and by next post shall be able more fully to reply on that head, as well as on the Commissary business — Your account of the returning health of your city affords sincere pleasure, and I hope that every possible means will be employed that human Wisdom can devise to prevent a return of the Malady that has been so fatal to the inhabitants — In your former letter you mention your resuming your functions in Q. M^r Department by request of the Secretary of War — pray is that to be only temporary or are you to continue to perform that business as formerly?
