Your accounts having been summarily on examining Clerk, he finds sundry objectionable charges in Vouchers & statement, of which you have rendered — be pleased to have reference thereto & to state on whose authority the payments have been made with such other information as may occur to you necessary to a full explanation & elucidation thereof — which is essential before they are decided on, or me.
Vouchers N & W, in account to war returns are — the former is for a charge proper to be exhibited at the Navy Department & the latter is the account of John Mc delin, mentioned in the enclosed remarks.

The Treasurer of the United States will remit you the sum of twenty seven dollars, being for the pay of Thomas Simmons, Serjeant Major in Collo Benja Regiment Virginia militia, while on the Western expedition from 2d Sept to 25th December 1794 inclusively, which sum you will please to pay him taking the necessary receipt.
