Raleigh North Carolina 9th September 1799 We the Subscribers, Merchants of this place being called upon by Carleton Wallis Qony Master to the 6th Regiment of Infantry to examine a hogshead containing Four hundred pairs Socks and Four hundred pairs Shoes that had the appearance of being damaged. do Say to the best of our judgement that of the four hundred pairs of Woollen Socks Three hundred pairs are undamaged that out of the other hundred, pairs that are damaged may be Selected twenty five pairs that are Sufficiently good to issue to the Soldiers for their annual allowances. and the Shoes we are of opinion has not Sustained any injury to the amount of five Percent.
