[Copy] General Orders New York Nov. 1^st 1799. The following general disposition of the Army has been established. The Command of Major General Hamilton is to consist of the first, second, third, eleventh, twelfths, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth Regiments of Infantry, one Battalion of the first, and the whole of the second Regiment of Artillerists. — And four Troops of Dragoons — and has for its limits, the States from Maryland to New Hampshire, inclusively the State of Kentucky, and the North and South Western Territories. The Command of Major General Pinckney is to consist of the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth Regiments of Infantry, three Battalions of the first Regiment of Artillerists, and four Troops of Dragoons; and has its limits, the States from Virginia to Georgia, inclusively, and the State of Tennessee. The Troops under the command of Major General Hamilton are thus distributed. The first, second and third Regiments of Infantry, with one battalion of the first Regiment of Artillerists, & two Troops of Dragoons — are under the immediate command of Brigadier General Wilkinson, and will embrace all the Posts and Garrisons on the Lakes and Western Waters, from Niagara to Fort Stoddert inclusively, those in the State of Tennessee excepted. Of the Infantry, the first and second Regiments will form one Brigade; — the third, when United with the fourth, another; the fourteenth, the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth, another, the fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth, another. — The Senior Lieut Colonel Commandant, in each case, will take the command. Major Cushing of the first Regiment, is appointed Division Inspector; Captains Turner, of the second — Guion of the third, and Taylor of the eighth — Brigadier Inspectors.
