I answer your letter of the 22d Instant, enclosing the return of Mr Jacob Mayer for Dos 46.2 which from will be accordingly passed to your credit on the Books of this Office —
In answer to that part of your letter which respects Edmund Manchesters accounts I have to observe that the 1300 Dollars credited to be charged to him arose from a mistake which I can see no other way to rectify but by your refunding the 1300 Drs Drs now in your hands to the Treasurer of the United States —

By a letter from J Jackson Esqr of the 22 Ulto I observe you were credited to be charged with Drs 1300. which you received from him on some accts I therefore enclose you a new a/c by which you will perceive you are debtor to the United States the Sum of Drs 243.7 for which you will be held accountable on the Books of this Office; subject to this condition that you will be at liberty to cancel your demand as soon as you shall have properly authenticated
