Gen^l Jackson Esq^r Accountants Office In Boston August 30, 1799 Sir I answer your letter of the 22^d Instant inclosing the return of M^r Jacob Mayer for D^os 46.2 which from will be accompany'd paid be your credit on the Books of by this Office To answer to that part of your letter which respects Edmund Manchesters accounts I have to observe that the 1300 Dollars credited to be charged to have arisen from a mistaked which I can see no other way to rectify but by your refunding the 1056 Ys D^os now in your hands to the Treasurer of the United States Inclosed is a letter for Edmund Manchester I left open for your perusal, with a statement of his account as it now stands on the Books of this Office, leaving a balance against him of D^os 243.7 for which from he is held accountable I am &^ca W. M^r Edm^d Manchester August 30^th 1799 Boston Sir By a letter from J Jackson Esq^r of the 22 ult I observe you were credited to be charged with D^os 1300. which you received from him on [undecipherable] basis. I therefore inclose you a new a/c by which you will receive you are debtor to the United States the Sum of 243 7/5 Dol^s for which you will be held accountable on the Books of this Office, subject to this condition that you will be at liberty to assign your demand as soon as you shall have properly authenticated
