Boston.] Trenton War Department 30 Aug 1799 Sir; I received your Letter of the 21^st. instant. Eliphas Reeds pension commenced on the 6^th June 1792, at the rate of five dollars per month — he was paid from that time to the 1^st of August following, by the Commissioner of Loans for Pennsylvania, eight dollars and eighty three cents. he was also paid by the Commissioner for New York, from the 4^th of Sept 1792 to the 6^th March 1793, thirty dollars — besides these two payments he was returned to your Predecessor Mr. Appleton, for the whole of his pension from its commencement to the 5^th March 1793 — hence it appears he has received thirty eight dollars ²²/100 more than his due. You will please stop payment of his pension from March to Sept 1799, which will cover thirty dollars of what he has been overpaid; the remaining eight dollars ²²/100 will be deducted from his allowance for the next half year.
