Knoxville August 28.^th 1799 Sir I have made Payment to the Army in the State to March, and am now drawing on you for the Months of April, May & June, which I shall Compleat as soon as possible. I intended to be more particular this Post but Double Head with another Principal Chief, having made me a Visit from their Nation, Owing I believe to some Serious letters I have wrote to them, in Consequence of their Stealing Horses, engages me in their business. Colonel Butler has likewise come from South West Point, and I am to have the talks of the Indians this Evening. They have Requested of me a Flagg emblematical of the United States to be Hoisted among others that they mean to display at their Great Council Dance, This I shall indulge them in as they seem desirous to Shew respect to the Flagg of the United States And Peace with them while Brethren to inculcate through the Nation — The enclosed is a letter from M^r Hooker — I am very Respectfully Your Huml Serv^t David Henley Agent [undecipherable] The Honourable James McHenry Secretary of War Philadelphia
