Ebenezer Stevens Esq^r Agent of the Fortifications New York Accountants Office Trenton Aug^t 28. 1799 Sir I have received your letter of the 26 Ins^t enclosing your accounts up to the 1^st July with as Agent of fortifications also those towards advances and Pay lists of this Battalion on his Detachments all which will be examined & you will on course be informed of the result— The amount found due on Lieu^t Leonards Pay Rolls will be remitted as you desire— The removal of the Office of Government to this place on continuance of the prevailing Fever in Philadelphia will account for my writing to you from hence— Yours &c W.S. Swan, P. M. G. for examination & payment where duty it is on this first instance to liquidate all Army accounts and to whom you are requested to forward all your subsequent accounts, the receipt Rolls will be examined here & the proper amount entered to your credit, of which you will be duly informed.
