New York 23 August 1799 Sam^l Hodgdon Esq^r Sir Inclosed is Sundry letters received from the Officers of the Several Regiments of Artillery & Infantry, which I transmit you and request your attention to forward the several articles mentioned therein, as soon as you can conveniently, the Cloathing for the Artillery, (Sur Coats & Vests) I am having made up here & shall attend to that part of the business myself, in forwarding the necessary Complim^ts to their respective places — Col. Ogden of the 11^th Regiments writes me that the Camp Kettles furnish'd him, many of them are unfit for use, and he wishes me to supply him, as they are needed much — I will thank you to inform me whether I must furnish them, as this Regiment is to take the field in a short time — I have nothing in my to comply with the Requisitions which are made on me, (but a few Shirts,) it is Requisite I should be furnished with Hats, Shoes Socks Overhalls and such articles to distribute when occasion Requires.
