Philadelphia, 23^d Aug. 1799 Sir, I have received your letter of the 13^th inst.— Not a moments time has been lost unnecessarily in entering up such documents as have been produced in the business of the late Commissariat, even now I am waiting for Vouchers— I shall make another attempt to know who is accountable for the Provisions delivered at Oswego and Niagara, and if not successful shall make the principal of the Department accountable— In the first enquiry into the business both M^r Kirkpatrick and M^r Day in, formed me that they were to manage all the business to the westward of Fort Washington, and you undertook all to the Eastward— the reiterated declaration of M^r Day determined me to charge you as stated in the account sent to you— The Fever once more causes a Removal of, of the public Offices, I expect the whole of them will be away within four or five days— I have not come to any conclusion respecting the business as I am of opinion that the alarm will subside— I am, Sir, Your most Obedient Servant, Samuel Hodgdon Major Isaac Craig—
