I received your letter enclosing the 24 Ulto including your accounts & vouchers therein referred to for settlement; which have undergone examination offered to except from your statement of Copy herewith of your account as stated in this Office for your government by which there appears a balance in your favor of 7D 179 91 from which deduct — this sum withheld for payment of your receipt in favor of Dr John G Laffont — 80 —
to which adds — Amt pay due sundry men 99 41
stationed at Fort Niagara from 1 March to 31st,
May 1799 p receipt bill hereunto 553.55

Amounting to two hundred fifty two Dollars & forty four Cents which sum you will receive from local [undecipherable] who to whom you will please to transmit your duplicate receipt holding yourself accountable for his due application thereof.
As soon as you have obtained the signatures to the within receipt take it is to be returned in order to exonerate you from the charge (with that for the month of June 99) on the Books of this Office —
