I rely on your candour to acquit me of any design to procrastinate payment for the services to which you allude or to embarrass you in any other way.

Samuel Hodgdon
Henry Glen Esqt
Philadelphia 21st August 1799
Sir.
The promptness with which you attended to my last letter, relative to a portion of my accounts before you demands my thanks. In the pressure of your business will it not be possible for you to report on my Quarter Master Accounts? I wish much to settle with the Quarter Master General, but I cannot do it until I have your sanction to my disbursements. Should the fever or ill health take you from the city (neither of which I sincerely wish may happen) I fear it will be long before I can compass my wishes. With respect to my reference to Mr Glen I submit it to your consideration whether it will not be best to credit my account and debit his with the amount.
With Sentiments of esteem
