Hawkins                                           August 22^d 1799 Richmond V^a Sir I have received your letter of the 1 Inst. enclosing a receipt roll for pay of the Detachment under your command for the months of April May, 1799 the amount therein found receipted being Doll. $46.17, will be [undecipherable] to the credit of your account on the Books of this Office — Enclosed you will receive a [undecipherable] of your account from which it appears that there is a balance in favor of the United States in your hands of One hundred & eight Dollars for which sum you are held accountable — Sam [undecipherable] N.
