Philadelphia 17^th August 1799 Sir, I find by calculation that the Barrack, and four parrallel buildings erected for Stores at Carlisle may be fitted to receive and ease three Regiments of men with their Officers commodiously, and that there are other buildings contiguous which may be converted into Barracks that will accomodate another Regiment, should it be necessary. But three buildings of the Stores are made into Barracks must be reserved and fitted to receive the military supplies which are now in the Store unless a removal of them is contemplated, which I think unnecessary, as I am clearly of opinion that if a suitable provision is made, both may be well accomodated at the Post, I am Sir, your most ob^t Ser^t James McHenry Esq^r Samuel Hodgdon Barrack room calculated as follows Viz^t The Barrack has 36 Rooms which will hold 20 Soldiers each . . . . say . . . . . .
