from your accounts, to wit: the amount of the indent another being 125 Doll^rs paid by you to M^r ThinkRa for 6 months rent of a house occupied by Major [undecipherable: Frigen?] rejected because this charge is unnecessary, & therefore ought to have been sanctioned by the Commanding General & approved of by the Secretary of War, and this rule must be rigidly observed in all charges of a nature in order to settlement at this Office, when the authority is given by letter and other writing, an extract of the same should accompany the charge. The other objection is a sum of 135 Dollars being to much paid by you to Benedict Smith for 20 Cords Wood advised by you to Major Watson, admit because herein no Officer is knowlegded to draw an advance exceeding the regulations, as in the present case. The answer to your enquiries respecting the funds for a sufficient quantity of wood to last the Garrison during the approaching Winter, I have to inform you, that the enquiry must be made to this Secretary of War, & that in passing your accounts all drafts &c^t shall be governed by the present regulations — Sam H.
