August 9. 1799 Sir, It will be necessary towards the settlement of the accounts rendered by you for expenditures of the Quarter master Department that I should be furnished as soon as possible with an an Vouchers crediting all monies received & debts arising from the sale of such Public property as have been assigned to by you & your Agents for which the proceeds have or may come into your receipt. you will also be pleased to note in what the apparent balance on your own current consists. the early communication is desired for that I may be enabled to report thereon — Sam G^o W^d The Sec^y of War — August 10. 1799 Sir In the accounts of [undecipherable] Pay master to the late Carradians to Washington, there is a charge exhibited for his compensation from 1 April to the 4^th July 1799 @ 30 Dollars [p]month, & the authority on which the allowance of [undecipherable] month is made is the letter of the Sec^y of War to [undecipherable] of the 7 [undecipherable] — our enquiry of the Quarter Master General finds he has also made [undecipherable] an allowance of 1 ⅔ Dollar p day from 1^st March to 20 July, for his compensation acting in the same capasition as Deputy Quarter master General, your equality to the directions of the Secretary of Treasury — as these charges are for services performed within the same period I have to request that the Sec^y of War will inform whether the latter allowance
