Intendant of Stores Office War Department 9^th August 1799 Sir, I cannot lay my hand immediately on the draught of the land in the tenure of the Public at Carlisle, nor do I conceive it to be of much importance as it will be best to have a new survey made by order of the parties to annex to the Deed to be given when the purchase money is paid. Enclosed you have a copy of the Deed of the adjoining land purchased of M^r Holmes. I presume it is duly recorded in your county, and therefore the original need not be sent, if however it should be found necessary on notice thereof it shall be forwarded. You will please to inform the proprietors Agent & all concerned, that the Government will not relinquish one foot of the land originally possessed by them, the whole being deemed not more than sufficient, to compleat the plan contemplated when it was taken up. The surveys will embrace all the land held at first. — Col^o Burbthwayt, & Col^o Alexander are both well acquainted with the business from the first hour of possession, to the present time, and of every intermediate transaction, and to them I refer you for obtaining complete justice to the public under the negotiation now pending. — If any difficulties are started which you cannot obviate, you will advise me that suitable measures may be fallen on to remove them.
