On examining your Vouching act^t I find that you have paid the Sum of fourteen [undecipherable] Dollars as bounty to [undecipherable] recruits, enlisted between the periods of the 12 August 98. & 17 Feby 1799 — whereas the act to augment the Army passed the 16 July 1798, only allows a bounty of 12 Dollars to each Recruit who may enlist after the passing of said act — the further examination of your accounts will therefore remain suspended until you acquaint me by what authority you gave the bounty aforesaid — All advances of money on acc^t of the Recruiting service or for pay, are in future to be made by the Pay master Gen^l who is now on this duty, to whom application must be made accordingly.
