Upon an examination of the Rolls in this Office I find that Noah Whipple was inlisted on the 30 July 1798 and deserted on the 28 Oct.^r following; James Bonnet inlisted on the 24 Decem.^t 1794 for 3 Years, he joined Capt. Britts Company from Desertion on the 1.^st March 1797 & again deserted on the 10 June following - Salser Willhelms, inlisted on the 8 April 1795, & on the 30 Nov.^r 1796 was transfered to Capt.^t Preston's Company, but as he does not appear on his Rolls I think it probable he might have deserted on the following month. I would thank you to use your endeavors to ascertain the time the two last were absent. You observe in your remarks that Joel Strong deserted on the 15.^t August 1796 and was apprehended on the 28 June 1799 which time you make 2 years 3 Months & 18 days, whereas if the abovementioned periods are right the time he lost is 2 years 10 months & 15 days - the pay of Strong & Willhelms, is made up from the respective days of their joining your detachment, but should any expences have been incurred in consequence of their desertion, you will be pleased to withhold the amount in your hands, deducting it from their pay. As soon as your account Current arrives it will be acted upon, & the result immediately communicated to you &c. Sam &c W.S.
