Sir I have rec'd your letter of the 20 Instant, enclosing the receipts for pay of yourself & tennants, to 31 May 1799 inclusively, amounting to Fifteen hundred ninety one Dollars & [undecipherable] for which have been examined & found correct, will be passed to your Credit in the Books of this Office.
Enclos'd is a copy of my letter to you of the 25 last March, respecting Mr Davis's Acct. #2 Enquiry has been made at the Post Office in regard to your promotion & the answer was that it took place on the 2d March, but for further information I have to refer you to the Secretary of War. The Accountant being temporarily absent will account for this communication coming from me —
