Bedlow's Island — New York] Department of [War] Accountants [Office] July 28^th 1795 Sir On the Accounts rendered by M^r [ol]fo[se] Contractor for the Post of New york, We[st Point &c] there is a Charge of Doll^s 2[00] ⁵⁶/₁₀₀ for Hospital Stores Supplied [at] Bedlow's Island — the account for which is certified by [you] and it appears by the Certificate that you are in Posse[ssion] of the Vouchers on which the Issues were made. As I cons[ider] this amount to be of a most extravagant nature, I ha[ve] to request you will forward to this office as early as po[ssi]b[le] those original returns & vouchers, as well as all other[s] original returns in your possession for Rations &c from [at] Bedlow's Island, in order to enable me to make [a] such an examination, as will convince me of the propriety of such charges before I admit them to the credit of the Contractors.
