Sir I received Your letter of the 12^th instant and am happy to find that it contained nothing of the Yellow Fever — nothing new has occured since last Post Except that an Expy who came via Sandusky from Detroit Says the Indians are all remarkably Friendly & Hospitable —. Major Kingsburg arrived here a few days ago from Loftus Heights but as he left that Post on the 29^th April we have nothing new by him the Major has obtained a Furlough after an Absence of nine Years from his Framely — he says that Governor Serjeant was ill of the Gout at the time he left Natchez — Please to informe me on what terms Col. Stevens has settled his Compensation Claim. I am much at a Loss to know how to proceed on my Claim and am Sorry indeed that I am still under a Necessity of giving You trouble on that Business. I wish you at a Convenient time (Should You not disapprove of the measure) to Ask the Secretary of War if possible in presence of Col.
