D^rs 1299.40 Amounting to one thousand two hundred ninety nine Dollars & forty cents, which sum you will receive from Edward Carrington Esq.^r Supervisor at Richmond granting your necessary rec.^ts to be accountable for the due application thereof — Any expences which may have been incurred in pursuing & apprehending the deserters, above mentioned, it is to be stopped out of their pay, — On reference to the muster Rolls of Cap.^tn Preston's company it appears that Joseph Cavanough enlisted the 15^th May 1796, for three Years — there are no muster Rolls of a sufficient late date, whereby it can be ascertained when he deserted — With respect to the money advanced for apprehending Deser[ters] it is proper that you state an account & transmit the same to this Office, for examination, accompanied by the proper vouchers for the payment, when those cannot be obtained it will be necessary that you annex your oath to the account The Receipt Rolls for pay &c of the Troops at Fort Norfolk for April 1799 have not been received — I am &c N.L.
