I have yor letter of the 18th and have [filed] an account [crediting] your pay & Subsistence from the [service] you were last [sitting] made up to the 30 June last leaving a balance of 189 [?]oo due the United States agreeably to a [foregoing?] [notice]. [From] your representations the Secretary of War has directed that an advance equal to what you require may be made— You will accordingly receive the Sum of Seventy dollars from [Bur?] Louis to file in the War Office for which you will forward [below?] your duplicate receipt and you will be charged & held accountable for that Sum in addition to the balance above [stated] making in all 236 100/100 Dolrs —
