Detroit 12.^th July 1799 Sir, I have the honor of enclosing Duplicates of the Quarterly Returns, of the Clothing & Indian Commissary Departments for the Months of January, Feby. & March 1798— I cannot at present, send Copies of the Vouchers for the Issues of the said Three months. Colonel Strong being too much occupied in making up Returns, &c for the different Departments, which are to be forwarded immediately to General Hamilton, therefore cannot spare time to examine the Vouchers & Receipts contained in the Receipt Book to certify [underline: the extracts] which must be forwarded to you. It is however probable, that you have received ere this period, the Returns & Vouchers forwarded by Col. Strong to the War Office, of the above mentioned dates — If so, you will oblige me, by sending the enclosed Returns back to Detroit, Mr. Solomon Sibley, who acted in my stead during my absence, has forwarded to you, the Returns & Vouchers for the two last Quarters. The Annuities for the Indian Nations are at Presqu'isle, and the Detroit Sails for that place to day, for the purpose of bringing them to this place. Gov. St. Clair is not yet arrived at this post but is expected soon — great numbers of Inds. are already arrived, and many others are on their way — The Pottewatamies have lately killed some of the Miamies Nation, and taken several prisoners. They appear generally satisfied — and of a hostile disposition. I sincerely hope, that Gov. St. Clair may soon reach this — and that he may be fortunate enough to conciliate their affections. No accounts of the [underline: lost Trunk]. Doctr. Brown anticipates the pleasure of — soon, he will take with him Arms &c., to replace those which I unfortunately lost.
