Replacing the Powder that Was Embezzled
Document 1799Morris called on Mr. Poe to discuss the powder that was embezzled. Poe will meet with the other gentleman with whom he is associated and discuss the matter. Though they admit that they are accountable for the deficiency, they seem to be waiting for some future time when the powder might be replaced at less expense.

Sir
Your letter of the 10th of June came duly to hand, and immediately on the receipt thereof I called on [undecipherable: probable reading "M'Pbe"], delivered the letter directed to him and desired his answer respecting the powder which was embezzled, he said he would call the Gentlemen with whom he was asociated, together and communicate their determination to me
as yet they have made no written communication although they admit they are accountable for the deficiency. — It appears they are of opinion that at some future period it can be replaced at his expence, and are therefore anxious to have further time. I shall notwithstanding continue to urge them to a settlement.
