Samuel Hodgdon Esq.
Dear Sir
I wrote a plain letter to the Secretary Yesterday. That if he was fixed my Salary Should not exceed a Thousand dollars Pr him to request him to appoint a person to Supervise me As the many offices that fall on me engross the whole of my time And my friends blame me for Serving—
Gen. Humilton requested me not to resign but I Cant think of Serving for a Sum, that I allow my Clerk, My attention to the Artillery Solely is adequate to the profered Sum, I have likewise Inspected the Powder had it Sunned & riddled which I think no Agent would have done without public Orders And think I Can add I have Saved government five times my Salary
I wish you to impress on the Secretary's mind that he want get a person that will attend to What I have, Who is to put the Field Artillery in Order when it arrives—
I am with Sentiments
