Major Lewis Truseau Accountants Office Fort Mifflin July N^o 8. 1799 Sir The Auditor of the Treasury Department has transmitted to this Office a Statement of rations filed by the Contractor at those [undecipherable: Stations] to the Officers therein, mentions by which it appears that you have drawn double rations for the months of Sept [&] Oct 1797 as commandant of the Garrison of Fort Mifflin — The S[ec.] of War having however decided that Lieut. Muhlenberg was the commandant of that Garrison for the period above mentioned to rec'd double rations accordingly therefore the Sum of Dollars 46 [undecipherable], being the amount of 249 Rations (at 19 [undecipherable] rations) overdrawn by you will be deducted from your pay as [undecipherable: allowance] at this Office — Your &c [undecipherable: initials] Capt James Stella July 8 1799 Fort Jay Sir By the acct of William Holland [undecipherable: Contractor] reported at this Office it appears that you have been drawing rations for [undecipherable] as Negro your Waiter for the month of May 1799 — this being the case the Sum of Dollars 8 [undecipherable] will be deducted from your pay on Settlement at this Office being the amt of 31 rations overdrawn at the [undecipherable: Computation] of 27 [undecipherable] cents of a ration — It may be proper to observe that excess of this nature find much to increase the burthen of this Office [undecipherable] thought before that in all future [undecipherable: draughts] the advance [undecipherable: care will]
