Irish's letter. — Stevens is not permitted to retire; of course another Negotiation relative to compensation is begun — nothing short of 2000 Dollars per ann[um] I am informed will be accepted — The bill for Capt. Lyman's supplies was enclosed in my last. — The alarm created by two or three sudden deaths subsides.
