In consequence to your representations on the subject of the extra pay of [undecipherable: 5^th] Soldiers, I have submitted the claim to the Secretary of War, & when his answer is had, you will be duly inform'd. — As respects your pay as Quarter Master [undecipherable: Elementary] I have to observe that if you have been duly appointed Regimental Quarter Master agreeable to law, payment will be made therefor through this Office, but that no [undecipherable: bounty] cannot be paid here, if you have receiv'd this appointment through the Quarter Master General, it is to him you should prefer your claim for compensation — The Matter of Pay rolls enclosed in your letter will be acted on and the amount forwarded as usual — Sam &c N.
