Joshua Gore Esq.^r Ag.^t Fortifications Marblehead M.S Accountants Office June 24 1799 Sir Dear Sir, Since yours of the 22 Inst.^t your acc.^t Vouchers have been examined & have found right, you will be correct with the amount thereof being D.^r 775.22, which pays a [undecipherable] which are not stated on the books of this Office leaving a balance in your hands on the last of May 1799 of Dollars 222.22.78 — It is necessary to acquaint you that when payment is made to a person who cannot write his name, his mark must be attested by some responsible witness, this formality is wanting to several of the vouchers already received & altho' they have in this instance been admitted, the necessary evidence will be required in future — Our abstract of the articles purchased by you have been and will continue to be transmitted from time to time, to Samuel Hodgson Superintendent of Military Stores, in order that you may be held accountable for the final application thereof on the books of his Office — Yours & W.S.
