June 21^st 1799 Sir, A letter from Gen^l Lincoln dated June 15^th on the subject of temporary Hospitals contains the following observations, "[undecipherable] the Barracks & situation at [undecipherable] [undecipherable] I am partly in opinion that a [undecipherable] temporary provision will [undecipherable] all circumstances considered, to any the "[undecipherable]" The Barracks have been much neglected & are not [undecipherable] beside an additional one will be probably [undecipherable] the expence, all which will be about $500." "I will only add not whatever expence shall be put on the Barracks it will [undecipherable] on property of the United States if use when left they will be of use to the garrison." I have to request, if you perceive no objection, that directions may be given for making the necessary repairs & for erecting a new Barrack on Castle Island as proposed by General Lincoln.
