Philadelphia 25^th June 1799 Sir— I have received your letter of the 14 instant— I shall be glad to relieve the requested returns at an early day— There is no necessity for suspending your Commissary adjustments as they have no relation to the returns— certain papers are wanting from the Comptrollers Office which have been frequently applied for without effect, I am informed they may now be had, and as soon as I have completed a General Return for General Hamilton, I shall attend to that business and hope to be enabled to offer it— The Secretary of War has fixed Colonel Stevens's salary for past services at 025[0] Dollars and future ones at 1000 Dollars per annum— By a letter received from Stevens this morning he refuses the compensation and resigns his employments— I will inform you the final result, as soon as known your Most Ob^dt Servant Samuel Hodgdon Major Isaac Craig—
