From the same to the same dated July 1^st 1799 — "I have recieved your letter of the 22^d Ulto with its enclosures — I have in return to hand you an Extract of a letter from Captⁿ James Stott, stating that the cloth deliverd to him by you has fallen short 20 pieces after being made up with every allowance accompanying the cutting &c — As the Officers respectively, are to be held accountable for the true application of the Cloaths deliverd, it is necessary that this difficulty with respect to their delivery or quantities should be removed, before I can say any thing further on the subject." From the same to the same dated July 19^th 99 — "I have recieved your letter since the 19 Inst^t on the subject of the Cloaths supplied the troops, in answer to which it is only necessary for me to refer you to my letter of the 19^th Ulto by which you have been informed that until firm proof of payment &c their having before inspectors conformably to the letter to you from the Secretary of War of the 13 Nov^r last: Extracts of which is annexed, I cannot admit the same — Receipts from the Officers for the number delivered to them respectively stating at the same time that they were conformably to pattern will be satisfactory."
