Sir
I have received a letter from [undecipherable] Hugh McTath under date of the 20 ulto: enclosing triplicate Muster & Pay Rolls of a Detachment of Militia commanded by [undecipherable] [undecipherable] at [undecipherable] [undecipherable] from 28 Nov. 1796 to the 25 May 1797, a copy of the letter of Lieut [undecipherable] [undecipherable] certificates, and one of the Pay [undecipherable] rolls. I herewith inclose to you and request that you will offer to and give your remarks thereon as early as may be. I have deemed it most proper to await your report thereon before I come to the [undecipherable] knowing that you are acquainted with most of the circumstances attending the calling out of the Militia of the State of Georgia, as well as paying them — you will observe that it is alleged that the reason why payment was not made was the want of their being regularly mustered at the time when the other troops were, that they were considered as part of the hundred [undecipherable] [undecipherable] by the federal Government, of this however you will judge when you compare them with those already paid. I am [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] uniformly [undecipherable]
