" I have already stated to you the Salary paid to the Storekeepers — here who has the receiving packing up safekeeping and delivery for transportation of all Stores for the Army and who also keeps the accounts respecting the same — It does not appear to me that your business in this line can be considered in any point of view as laborious or requiring such constant attention. You have has the procuring of materials for the fortifications the paying of Workmen and Labours and duties connected therewith which certainly entitles to distinct compensation I have therefore determined taking the whole together to allow you at, the rate of twelve hundred and fifty dollars per annum, since you were first employed, two hundred and fifty of which to end with the present year " —— Attested [undecipherable] N.
